Calling all Doomsters. We’ve got a backstage pass to the NARdi GRAS REALTORS(R) CONFERENCE & EXPO NEW ORLEANS NOV 10-13 2006! Enough pessimism, already. It’s time to fly our magic cyber-carpets to New Orleans and bask in some upbeat atmosphere with 30,000 seriously spirited RE pros.
These guys know how to put on a spread. There are two ex-Presidents on the menu! It’s not all fun-and-games, though. NAR is heavily into Habitat for Humanity, and good for them. Anyway, I’m off to pick up my virtual Mai Tai. See you there!
Notes and References: a Cajun would translate "NARdi GRAS" into something like fat estate agent. : "Realtors(R), Bringing Dollars and Dreams to New Orleans, Open 2006 Conference & Expo Here", NAR Press Release, Yahoo Finance / PRNewswire, November 10, 2006.
"About 30,000 Realtors® will attend business meetings, political forums, and educational and training sessions at their four-day sessions at the Morial Convention Center and the Riverside Hilton, and
inject more than $34 million into the New Orleans economy.
Realtors®, many of whom came to town early for the November 9-13 convention — dubbed "NARdi Gras" — rolled up their sleeves to help in the city’s recovery effort with a series of work projects that continue through next week. Those include the dedication of a Realtor®-built Habitat for Humanity home, help in framing other Habitat homes, cleaning and beautifying City Park, sorting books at the public library, spiffing up De La Salle High School, and many more.
‘Realtors® build communities,’ NAR President Thomas M. Stevens told several thousand Realtors® at the kick-off meeting Thursday night. ‘Realtors® can be proud of their work in New Orleans because we’re in the business of putting people into homes.’ This past year, because of the devastation left behind by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, each of the nation’s 54 state and territorial Realtor® associations is planning to sponsor and build a new Habitat home in the Gulf Coast region, dubbed the Realtor®- Habitat Partnership for Gulf Coast Recovery program."
