Amen!

Probably nobody more destitute than the person shackled to all the things that money can buy...
without the peace, joy and contentment that money cannot possibly buy!

I often challenge people to watch an episode of what passes for pop-culture "affluence and success" (probably Entertainment Tonight or something with Paris Hilton, Ozzy or some other 'star') and then immediately watch an episode of Little House on the Prairie or a similar program full of the values that were used to build this country.

The contrast is shocking... and a bit sad.

I don't think I've said it recently... but THANKS for what you do here at housingdoom!

Asset Hunter-

A lot of people are going to need to keep their sense of perspective in all of this.

I remember hearing a lady in Chicago, obviously of humble means, talking about people in Florida who had lost fancy beach homes to a hurricane.

She said, "I don't know why those people are whining and moaning. They got their health, they're alive- they got each other. People don't need no fancy beach homes." I doubt she had every lived anywhere that wasn't very modest, but she was obviously content with life.

Even if the forclosure predictions are right, people can still choose how they react to life. They can figure that losing the McMansion is the end of the world, or they can say, "We were happy before without the Hummer, the granite countertops or the fancy pool- we can be happy again."

That Scripture is the best antidote I've ever found to taking the things of this world too seriously.

I've recommended to people to start a fire sometime and then toss in something of "value" to them to see what it feels like, before they spend their lives chasing the accumulation of more "kindling."

I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but the term "Asset Hunter" has almost nothing to do with money, property, stocks or precious metals.

To me, the only things that qualify as assets are those that will survive the big "meltdown" in 2 Peter 3:10-12.

So far, I've only found two:
~ God's Word
~ Human Souls

Fortunately, those are the "assets" that I'm commanded to invest in.

I'm also told to "abide" until He comes.
That is where the properties, money, etc. come in.
Stewardship and use of "talents" is also a big part of the plan. (Matthew 25)

Could you imagine anyone riding this rock around the sun 70 or 80 times and doing nothing but lusting after, acquiring, stacking up, and re-arranging firewood? What a devastating waste of time and resources that would be.

OK... sermon's over.

All computers are "doomed"... eventually....

2 Peter 3:10-12

Now THAT is what I call "planned obsolescence!"

MikeC-

Admin explained the problem to me, but he doesn't speak English, and I have only a limited command of "Techie."

I hope the scare wasn't too bad for folks first thing on a Friday morning!

Thanks for clearing that up!
I was about to e-mail about it myself.

Hope it doesn't deter anybody from visiting for too long! :)
