The Crack of Doom - Week of June 4, 2007

That "Sell in May and Go Away" thing is now over, but perhaps we can squeeze in just a few more Dow and S&P all-time records highs and historic Dollar lows as we begin the long, slow slide to the summer doldrums. All it will take is just one or two additional multi-billion dollar M&A deals every day to keep the pot boiling. Hey, something might even go down in housing.

If you drink Kool-aid, drink responsibly

HUD is celebrating National Homeownership Month in the month of June.  However, with home sales stagnating, prices remaining stubbornly high, rising foreclosures and subprime troubles, it’s getting tough to find something to celebrate.  I thought that perhaps I could help "punch up"  HUD’s campaign with a few suggestions to keep things catchy and upbeat.

Secretary Alphonso Jackson said:

Throughout this month-long campaign we are taking our message of promoting and protecting homeownership to communities nationwide," said Jackson. "All Americans should have the opportunity to achieve the dream of buying a home [I’ve got an idea for a theme song in a minute] - and once they do, we want to ensure they stay in it.

The theme this year is Promoting and protecting homeownership, which you have to admit is not a very catchy slogan.  I was thinking they need something more along the line of If you drink Kool-aid, drink responsibly, or Be Smart, Don’t Start.  [OK, they probably won’t go for the second one- I suppose it’s been used already anyway.]
