I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Renters, you need to keep an eye on your landlord’s finances: [Thank you M nd L for the links!]
Maricopa County constables are evicting more renters of single-family homes as they struggle to pay rent in the faltering economy or as foreclosures strike their landlords.
The tenants cut across all demographics and properties, from luxury homes in north Scottsdale to affordable homes in the suburbs. Some tenants are blindsided by the evictions, unaware the home fell into foreclosure even as they have continued to pay rent to homeowners. Other tenants have failed to pay rent and have already boxed their belongings, waiting for a constable to bang on the front door.
Check the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office for any liens or notice of trustee sales against your landlord or any companies he/she might own. Even if it’s not involving the property you rent, their financial problems are likely to spread to other assets. There are plenty of other properties to rent if things don’t work out in your current home, but it’s best to be ahead of the game. Evictions aren’t fun.
