L thought this looks like a sign of the times, and I had to agree. If you have MLS access, check out #2895409. It looks like the granite countertop business isn’t what it used to be:

It’s been on the market since December, with an original list price of $650K. For Yun and all the folks who figure the market is at the "bottom", here’s the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

Speaking from experience I know this all too well. If you’re in the business of chasing rooftops, this is a disaster of epic proportions. Regretfully if someone wants to get into the cabinet and countertop biz they’ll just wait for the firesale. I’m sure Wal-Mart is doing just fine.
Where is this place. Not that I want to buy,I used to work with granite, and know many people still doing it.I have been waiting to see certain aspects of homebuilding go out of business.
Now that everyone has one no one needs one. It’s a nice luxury that is a bit over rated. Look at all the different kinds of countertops you can get.

The lesson here is if you don’t want your property taxes to go up, don’t remodel with nice stuff like granite.
I bet there is a lot of this going on now.
I remember 2 plumber no-shows, and 3 landscaper no-shows in Vegas in early ‘05. One landscaper took my money (deposit) and never returned. I would guess things are a lot different now, they are probably begging for business, that is if they are still in business.
Interesting how quickly things can go from inability to get people to do work because demand for services is so high then to the same type businesses going broke a few years later.
outofvegas,
I’ve been here 7.5 yrs and I know exactly what you’re talking about. Landscapers and printers are the worst in my book. This town has always been classless. Maybe this downturn will help like an enema. Doesn’t matter. No water.
Curly-
This is located out on W. Buckeye.
I went to that link that toysarefun provided, and was amazed at what I was reading about granite.Everything that article said was not true.Granite is not durable, not scratch resistant, and not heat resistant.People are made to believe that granite is stronger then steel. Its not.I could tell you story after story about granite and homeowners.Granite doesnt belong in the kitchen.
If granite isn’t recommended, then what’s the best material to use?
