More Foreclosures, Fewer Annoying Neighbors

I guess there’s a bright side to everything- even abandoned properties with enormous weeds.  From my old hometown of Gilbert, AZ:

Weeds have grown 8 feet tall in the backyard of the foreclosed property next to Matt Porter’s home in The Gardens.

Porter has taken his chainsaw to trim the weeds in the front yard to upkeep the property that has been vacant for six months.

He said The Gardens is attractive for investors as more and more people are walking away from their homes and leaving them vacant.

On the upside, Porter said he doesn’t have to deal with annoying neighbors but he said foreclosed properties are an eyesore.

"They look really ugly when you drive down the street in the community," Porter said. "It forces people like to me to stay put instead of selling."

I suppose weeds are quiet, don’t pry into your affairs, or fail to return tools they borrowed.  Maybe living next to eight foot weeds isn’t all bad.

  1. Weeds are getting higher and homes prices are getting lower. Could be some sort of mathematical equation. Look at the price on these two Gilbert homes:

And another thing: does weed really grow well in that dry climate? I thought it needed hot and tropical/moist – like in SE Asia?

With a good shot of rain, weeds can get up around six feet in Phoenix. If you’ve ever had to whack your way through a heavy patch of Johnson Grass though, it can feel taller.

Truthfully, the only weedy thing I’ve seen eight feet tall in the Phoenix area is bamboo- and that typically near older properties.

That said, I believe the guy when he says the weeds are bad- even if he’s a poor judge of height.

Matt should just do the upkeep instead of waiting for the weeds to grow…lazy a**. H*** if AZ law is like CO, if he uses the land enough he can just claim it as his own…

At least Matt is doing something about it- there are plenty of neighbors, but he seems to be the only one doing anything about it.

The yard is probably gravel, so if it were me, I’d be out there zapping the new weeds with Roundup- it’s easier that way.

[I've never lived next door to a foreclosure, but I've had a few neighbors for whom yard maintenance was not a high priority, so I speak from experience.]

Twist – sorry for the lack of editing…mostly being tongue and cheek…by the way my house finally sold in Miami…let the short sale negotiation begin…

Don’t worry about the editing- we’ve got you covered. : )

Congratulations on selling your place in Miami- not an easy thing to do these days!

LOL, seems liked WEEDS are the only thing that “can only go up”.
