You just can’t help some people. The 2005 "Extreme Makeover" home has gone into foreclosure. [Hat tip Jeremy!]
An Extreme Home Makeover may be going bust. The first metro family who got a new home is facing foreclosure.
A foreclosure notice appeared last Friday, a $450,000 second mortgage they took out less than 15 months ago was in default. Patricia Harper, the homeowner, told Channel 2 she and her husband had struck a deal with Chase Home Finance to rescue their "extreme" home. Chase said they couldn’t confirm that claim.
“I didn’t really know what the circumstances were, I was kind of surprised. I was really surprised to read that,” said neighbor Doris Rhodenizer.
Lake City mayor Willie Oswalt was among the 1,800 volunteers helping "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" build the Harper’s new home 3 ½ years ago. Beazer Homes of Atlanta was the main sponsor. The mayor said he is baffled. “Beazer gave them $100,000 cash, paid their mortgage off and they still can’t make it," said Oswalt. Harper told Channel 2 they invested the loan proceeds in a construction business and the business hasn’t been good. She didn’t say how much of the money is left. “What’s going to happen is instead of keep paying my mortgage, I’m going to take my money and not pay my mortgage because I’m being harassed,” said Harper.
Makes you feel like handing them a bailout, doesn’t it?
Mindboggling. It goes to show you that some people are so totally devoid of any morality that they can’t be helped. 15 months ago most people had come to the realization that we were in something kind of bad. All the people that work their butts off just to get by and then these clowns come along and get such a freebie. Sickening.
Along with all the fraudsters you read about at BMIT and elsewhere, here is yet another poster child for why bailouts are a terrible idea.
Perhaps RE bloggers need to start showing up at press conferences and asking the politicians proposing such ideas the hard questions, since the MSM is so bought off by the REIC that they refuse to even ask.
Amazing. Some people should not own a home. The American Dream requires responsibility. Even Habitat for Humanity keeps a lien on a house for 5 to 10 years to prohibit home owners from tapping into the equity.
I think I’m going to be sick.
All of these examples of flippers, fraudsters, and flat out idiots, yet our government still insists on bailing out home “owners” and banks. It’s an entitlement society taken to the extreme out there.
There’s no gentle way to put this: the GA couple are two dopes.
… insert standard maxim for fools and their money here …
Stupid is as stupid does…
Extreme Makeover is/was just a big commercial for the home building industry.
The PR campaign worked pretty well, until it didn’t.
Hopefully they stop running this ad, but if not more people will get to win the lottery and of course most people that win the lottery piss it all away..
Why? Cause the people that wouldn’t piss it all away don’t play the lottery because they aren’t pissing away there income…
unbelievable.
