Daud-

Sorry, I just found your comment in the dungeon- Igor's usual "more than one link" paranoia.

No Igor, don't say "doom"- "sorry" would be more like it.

MG, I don't think it is possible to skip over the pain, just delay it. Wealth is going to be destroyed either through inflation or deflation. Looks to me like Paulson and Bernanke want to pick and choose who gets to keep some. In the interest of preserving "the system" of course.

Hutch, if there's one thing I think reverberates with the RP crowd it's that the guy has some major consistency. He's probably more regular (with regards to voting) than the rest of his entire party combined.

One thing I really took to heart from a previous video of him on some news show, was that this period is designed to hurt. Using the gas (bailout) to try and skip over this pain artificially won't solve the root problem.

It's the complete truth and nobody wants to hear it because it may mean taking personal responsibility. The best thing the two party system ever had going for it was that you only have to point in one direction when something bad happens.

And visa-versa.

... meanwhile, Canada's best geopolitical pundit is inviting us to enjoy democracy while we can:

"Workers will be forced to pay for Wall Street's failures", by Gwynne Dyer, Georgia Strait, September 29, 2008.
Some Republicans argued that they could not support "socialistic" measures like nationalising banks and capping executive salaries, but in most cases that was not their real problem, and it can hardly have been the Democrats' problem. What really drove the House's rejection of the bill was the fact that every member faces re-election in five weeks' time, and the workers (sorry, I mean the voters) don't want to wind up paying for the mistakes of Wall Street's capitalists.<br .
They will be forced to pay in the end, because there's nobody else who can, but the timing is bad right now. All 435 Representatives have their jobs on the line in the elections on November 4, and those in marginal constituencies know that they will be severely punished at the polls if they use the taxpayers' money to bail out Wall Street now. A deluge of e-mails, letters, and calls from outraged voters has made that very clear to them.

After the election will be a different matter, and a bill quite similar to the one that failed this week will probably pass the House then without too much difficulty. There really is a financial crisis, and as soon as their own jobs are safe the politicians will deal with it. Or rather, they will arrange for the "workers" (as Lenin quaintly called them) to deal with it.

twist -

Ian M. sends from UBC Vancouver. He understands that Nancy Pelosi and her team recently suffered a tragic whipping breakdown, and in a message titled "Re: Monday" passed along this advice that should help her get her ducks in a row a lot faster next time.

Ron Paul's economic views make more sense than 98% of the Beltway crowd but I keep wondering if he is just one more Ego claiming " I !!! Can fix it!"
He's definitely more optimistic than I am.
