twist -

Thanks for your sidebar pick. Lenzner certainly stomps all over our Finance Minister's efforts to poo-poo the significance of Zhou's initiative.

In a perverse way it may be China that puts an end to this runaway spending in Washington. All they have to do is say are no longer willing to give a drunk another drink. Heaven knows there are not enough in our own government to put a stop to this insanity.

From one of AEI's regular banking analysts:

"Q&A: How to Think About the U.S. Dollar", by Desmond Lachman, American / AEI, March 27, 2009.
It has become fashionable to predict the imminent collapse of the dollar. What might really happen?

With the prospect of very large U.S. budget deficits for many years to come, it has become fashionable in academic and financial circles to predict the imminent collapse of the U.S. dollar. In answering a series of questions on the dollar, Desmond Lachman suggests that despite its very poor underlying fundamentals, at least in the next year or two it may strengthen, particularly against the euro, the world’s second most important international reserve currency.
By golly I feel better already.
